LSU Health New Orleans: Shaping Louisiana’s healthcare future

by The 100 Companies

In 2005, the LSU Health Sciences Center was stranded and scattered by Hurricane Katrina, yet faculty and students treated more than 28,000 patients in the largest civilian field hospital ever created. By 2006, 99 percent of students returned.

Today, as LSU Health New Orleans, we stand rooted in our mission as Louisiana’s most comprehensive health sciences center, educating over half of the state’s physicians. In 2025, 50% of graduates remained in-state for residency training.

As we prepare to celebrate our 153rd commencement in 2026, LSU Health New Orleans stands as a testament to resilience, shaping the future of Louisiana’s healthcare.
