Earlier this year, ArtsXchange, a historic Black arts institution, announced an exciting undertaking with Shades of Green Permaculture: transforming the quarter-acre of land in front of its building into a regenerative community greenspace for artists.
Phase 1 of the project is now complete, as the team has removed all grass, installed garden beds at the building’s foundation and tapped downspouts and pipes to begin managing stormwater onsite.
The final phase of the project is underway, which includes building and planting rain gardens that will capture and filter stormwater while nourishing pollinators and native plants.
